2008 Essay Contest Awards Ceremony

5th INTERNATIONAL ELTAM - IATEFL CONFERENCE

Creating a Philosophy of Teaching: Linking the Personal and Professional Self

University American College Skopje

October 24 - 26, 2008

Once again, the Fifth International Conference held in Skopje attracted many participants from the country and guests from abroad (Albania, Britain, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Ireland, Kosovo, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey and the USA). There were 43 presentations in three days. The Conference was an opportunity for the teachers to get together and exchange experiences, to see old friends and hear what is new in ELT. The Conference Organizers worked hard to make this event enjoyable and memorable.

On Friday, October 24th the Research SIG pre-Conference Event took place under the title RESEARCH IN EFL: CONNECTING THEORY AND PRACTICE. Presentations on research concerning various problems exceeded expectations for attendance.

The official opening ceremony of the conference at the Stone Bridge Hotel was an opportunity to give credit to all collaborators and sponsors who have given ELTAM support in all its activities throughout the years of its functioning. The splendid cocktail reception afterwards allowed time to socialize in a relaxed atmosphere.

Saturday, October 25th started with a plenary session by Dr. Judy Richardson. She graciously jumped in the programme two days before, when the scheduled plenary speaker, the Regional English Language Officer Lisa Harshbarger, announced that she was unable to travel due to an injury. Dr. Richardson’s presentation on “What English Language Learners Need” was followed with great interest.

During the break participants could visit stalls where publishers and other organizations (such as the British Council and the Peace Corps Macedonia) presented themselves.
