Online premiere of our documentary on teacher learning

ELTAM MK’s Macedonian Mentoring Network (MMN) is delighted to invite you to the online premiere of the documentary 
On Mentoring: Warmth, not Heat 
on Tuesday, 9th December 2025 at 2pm GMT / 3pm CET!

The documentary was filmed as part of ELTAM MK‘s project Consolidating and Scaling up Macedonian Mentoring Network (MMN) funded by A. S. Hornby Educational Trust.

MMN use Angi Malderez’s mentoring protocol called Systematic Informed Reflective Practice (SIRP, Malderez, 2024) to support teachers making sense of their classroom experiences in a safe, non-judgemental manner. Within MMN, teachers alternate between human and AI-supported mentoring experiences in Noticing. The project is managed on Mosaic, the teacher development platform.

SIRP breaks down post-lesson reflection into five distinct steps:

1. What happened?
2. How can I understand this?
3. What else do I know?
4. Most likely explanation?
5. So, what now?

In the summer of 2025 Angi privately visited North Macedonia. MMN thought this was a fantastic opportunity to meet Angi and chat about their experiences of using SIRP. Angi kindly agreed to talk to the group, whose development she had followed and supported from the very start.

In the documentary Angi talks about the origins of SIRP, how teachers learn, how teacher noticing can be supported, the ‘learned helplessness’ that mentor comments can develop, the empowerment from arriving at one’s own informed decisions, the value of sticking at it even when development is hard and requires time, and the importance for teachers to keep tinkering.

Last Saturday, 22nd February, 2025, we kicked off the first workshop of the second stage of the Macedonian Mentoring Network (MMM) project. With over 70 teachers in attendance, the event brought together both experienced mentors from the first stage of the project and enthusiastic newcomers eager to explore the power of mentoring in professional growth. 
We would like to thank once again the A.S. Hornby Educational Trust for supporting the development of ELTAM MK’s  Mentoring SIG. 
We look forward to our next session, when we will be sharing our experience both as mentors and mentees.

We would like to inform you that we have already e-mailed the Invitations for ELTAM MK competitions to all primary and secondary schools in the country. If you haven’t received yours, please check the Spam folder with your school administration, contact your local coordinator or write to primarycompetitions@eltam.org.mk for primary schools, or secondaryschoolcompetitions@eltam.org.mk for secondary schools.

Competitions are scheduled as below:

Local competitions -15.03. 2025
Regional competitions - 12.04. 2025
State competitions - 10.05.2025

In case you have questions regarding the payment of the registration fee, feel free to write to: treasurer@eltam.org.mk .

Please be mindful of the overlapping competition dates with other subjects and ensure that the same students are not assigned to multiple competitions. Thank you in advance!
